Rey Mysterio Match Official for WrestleMania 41
WWE adds Rey Mysterio vs. El Grande Americano match to WrestleMania 41 following controversy over Chad Gable’s luchador persona.

WWE has expanded the WrestleMania 41 card with the addition of Rey Mysterio facing El Grande Americano in a singles match. The bout was made official during Monday Night Raw, adding another contest to the two-night Premium Live Event set for Las Vegas.
The confrontation stems from in-ring action on Raw where El Grande Americano teamed with The Creed Brothers against LWO members Dragon Lee, Cruz Del Toro, and Joaquin Wilde. During the match, Ivy Nile provided El Grande Americano with a metal plate that he incorporated into his luchador mask. The foreign object was then used for loaded headbutts that secured victory for his team.
Following this incident, Rey Mysterio approached General Manager Adam Pearce backstage. Mysterio expressed that Chad Gable’s El Grande Americano character was making a mockery of lucha libre tradition. Pearce promptly granted his request for a match on WWE’s biggest stage. Despite the cultural implications, the contest is currently scheduled as a standard singles match with no stipulations such as mask vs. mask conditions.

This addition brings the WrestleMania 41 lineup to ten confirmed matches spanning both nights. The card now features four championship bouts, including the Undisputed WWE Championship match between Cody Rhodes and John Cena, plus Triple Threat matches for both the Women’s World Championship and a non-title clash between CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins.
