Rezar, one-half of the powerhouse tag team Authors of Pain, has revealed he turned down a potential singles run during his time in WWE, prioritizing his loyalty to his partner, Akam. The former star explained that the idea was never something he pursued.
In an interview with Metro, Rezar confirmed that the topic of a solo run was discussed backstage. “A lot of people backstage were pushing to do that. But I made my name in a tag team. I don’t go behind someone’s back,” he stated. “The talks were there, but I was never really interested.”
This commitment to the unit was a cornerstone for AOP, who were reportedly “never happy” on the main roster. Rezar recounted how he and Akam almost quit on their first day after learning their original NXT manager, Paul Ellering, was being replaced by Drake Maverick. Though Rezar called Maverick a “creative genius,” the initial switch set a negative tone for their main roster tenure.
With his WWE career now behind him, Rezar is shifting his focus back to combat sports and has called out strongman Eddie Hall for a boxing match.
Meanwhile, discussions around WWE’s creative choices continue on other fronts. On Sportskeeda’s Legion of RAW, former head writer Vince Russo criticized Triple H’s booking of returning stars like Nikki Bella and AJ Lee. Russo claimed the focus on short-term “pops” prevents talent from getting over, pointing to Bella’s recent clean tap-out loss to Asuka on Monday Night Raw as proof of a diluted creative focus.
