He may have traded his boots for a suit, but Paul “Triple H” Levesque still speaks with the mind of a competitor. Appearing on Good Morning America this morning, the WWE Chief Content Officer named Roman Reigns as the one current superstar he would want to face if he could step back into the ring in his prime.
Levesque, who officially retired from in-ring competition three years ago due to serious heart issues, didn’t hesitate when asked about a dream opponent. He praised the absent Tribal Chief’s growth both inside and outside the ring.
“If I got back in at this point I’d be wrestling Father Time is what I’d be doing,” Levesque said. “Nobody, mostly me, wants to see me back in the ring. It’s hard for me to say. I think if—in this moment right now, a current superstar—if I could go back in time and do what I did in my peak, it would be Roman Reigns.”
He continued: “He’s a great guy, incredible talent, incredible performer. Out making movies right now, still a WWE Superstar but branching out into Hollywood. He’s going to be a massive, massive [star].”
The choice resonates strongly given their shared history. Nearly a decade ago, Levesque and Reigns headlined WrestleMania 32 for the WWE Championship. For Levesque, whose last official match came six years ago, the pick underscores a full-circle connection between his career in the ring and his current role shaping WWE’s future.
Triple H’s comments arrive as Reigns remains on hiatus from WWE to film his role as Akuma in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie, a project he recently teased on social media with footage of his character’s glowing red eyes. His absence means he will not appear on this Saturday’s Wrestlepalooza card.
By contrast, Cody Rhodes—who also has a role in the film—has already wrapped his shooting schedule and will defend the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at Wrestlepalooza.
While a rematch between The Game and The Tribal Chief remains firmly in the realm of fantasy, Levesque’s endorsement underscores Reigns’ place as the standard-bearer for this era of WWE superstars.
