Sonya Deville Announces Her Retirement from Pro-Wrestling

Following her departure from WWE earlier this year, Sonya Deville has confirmed she is retired from professional wrestling, at least for now. Deville’s contract was not renewed by the company in February 2025, and in a recent interview, she explained that she is currently at peace with stepping away from the ring.

Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Deville elaborated on the emotional difficulty of imagining herself wrestling for another promotion. She pointed to her decade-long tenure with WWE, which began when she was 21, as the source of a powerful loyalty that makes performing elsewhere a difficult prospect.

“Definitely for now. Never say never. But right now I feel at peace with that,” Deville stated.

She also shared a more personal reflection on her connection to the company.

“I’m not gonna lie, and I haven’t said this, but it almost is like an open wound, and if I think about wrestling somewhere else, it’s like I was so loyal to the company, it was my only home from 21 years old to 31. I’m a ride or die type of person in general. So it’s weird to even think about doing that, but not there,” she said.

Deville’s career focus has now pivoted back to her original passion: acting. She confirmed she is actively working on projects, including an upcoming Christmas movie with Mick Foley. While she is also training again and remains open to a future in MMA—noting a strong relationship with the all-female promotion Invicta FC—she clarified that acting is her priority.

The decision to step away was put into context by her final months in WWE. After returning from an ACL tear in May 2024, Deville was placed in the Pure Fusion Collective faction. She expressed that this creative direction did not align with her strengths, especially after a successful tag team run with Chelsea Green was not revisited, contributing to a sense of closure upon her exit.

Ultimately, Deville reaffirmed that her “heart wants to act right now,” effectively pausing any potential return to the squared circle on the independent circuit or with another major company in the near future.
