Legendary Entertainment has slated its live-action “Street Fighter” movie for an October 16, 2026 theatrical release (via Ovicio). The film features Roman Reigns in the role of Akuma and current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes as Guile. The date was confirmed as part of a new multi-year distribution agreement between Legendary and Paramount Pictures. NJPW’s Hirooki Goto is also cast as E. Honda in the adaptation of the video game franchise.
The film’s official synopsis places the story in 1993, following estranged fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) as they are recruited for the World Warrior Tournament. Additional cast members include Jason Momoa as Blanka and 50 Cent as Balrog.
Production on the film directly accounts for the recent on-screen absences of both Reigns and Rhodes from WWE programming. Both performers were written off television via storyline attacks to accommodate their filming schedules.
Reigns was removed from active storylines following a post-match assault by Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed at WWE Clash in Paris on August 31. The angle facilitates an approximate four-week hiatus for Reigns. Rhodes has been absent since the August 8 edition of SmackDown, where he was attacked by Drew McIntyre after a tag team match.
While WWE has advertised Rhodes for the October 3 episode of SmackDown, reports indicate his filming could conclude by September 20, creating the possibility of an earlier return at the Wrestlepalooza PLE. Reigns’ return is anticipated around the end of September or early October.
