A former WWE employee, Tommy Carlucci, has claimed that The Rock lied about his lack of involvement in creating his own storyline leading up to WrestleMania 41. The statement came in response to a revelation made in the new Netflix documentary series, “WWE: Unreal,” which details the inner workings of the company.
During an appearance on the “The Last Word” show from Behind The Turnbuckle Studios, host Jonathan Coachman raised the issue. Coachman pointed out a contradiction between a prior statement from The Rock, in which he claimed to have had no part in the story preceding WrestleMania, and what was shown in the documentary. The series revealed that The Rock was part of a text message group with Triple H, Cody Rhodes, John Cena, and Travis Scott, where his shift to a heel character was planned.
Responding to the point raised by Coachman, Carlucci shared his opinion on The Rock’s attitude. “It’s very interesting that you bring that up, Coach, because it makes him look a bit like a liar, doesn’t it? Five people on the thread, right? So they go through with it, and you don’t see The Rock anymore; that makes him look like a big idiot in my eyes,” said Carlucci.
The documentary series focused extensively on the period surrounding WrestleMania 41 and the debut of RAW on the streaming platform. The information about the message group and the planning of The Rock’s return as “The Final Boss” was one of the behind-the-scenes secrets exposed by the production.
