WWE has disclosed the rationale behind the three-way contest featuring CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins scheduled for the first night of WrestleMania 41. The company’s head of creative, Paul Levesque, addressed the booking decision during a recent conversation with Peter Rosenburg.
The triple threat match emerged as tensions mounted between all three competitors, with Paul Heyman’s allegiance becoming a central point of contention in recent weeks. Levesque explained that while separate matches could have been arranged, the collective dynamics necessitated this approach first.
You can argue: ‘But you could have done an individual match between Seth and Roman. Could have done a match between Seth and Punk. Could have done Roman versus Punk.’ There are a lot of individual issues. There really are. But there are also a lot of collective issues.
Rather than positioning this match as a conclusion to their rivalries, Levesque suggested this could mark the beginning of a larger narrative.
Sometimes, when we get to WrestleMania, people think it should be the definitive end. Well, maybe we’re just giving you the definitive beginning. Maybe we’re just trying to figure out how to navigate this to get to WrestleMania to BEGIN a story that takes you places you haven’t even imagined yet.
The situation intensified during the final RAW before WrestleMania when Seth Rollins physically confronted both Roman Reigns and CM Punk, setting the stage for what promises to be a pivotal contest in Las Vegas.
