Thea Hail became one of the most talked-about names at the end of 2025. On the December 16 episode of WWE NXT, Hail captured the NXT Women’s Championship after defeating Blake Monroe in a match that ended differently than originally planned.

It was reported at the time that Hail was never supposed to win the match, but due to a miscommunication between Monroe and the referee, the pinfall over the then-champion was counted, shocking everyone in the ring—especially Hail herself.

Although many people were happy with Hail’s title win, even though it happened accidentally, the wrestler revealed that she faced a harsh environment of criticism—especially on social media—after the incident. Hail spoke in detail about this on Busted Open Radio.

“The controversy around the finish… people have a lot to say for no reason. Thea Hail won. Thea Hail hit the Boing, one-two-three, and I think a lot of people got upset about that.

I don’t know why, because I worked really hard. You saw how hard I worked, so let a girl win. X is really cruel. I’m just a girl, and X is cruel and very toxic. It’s not a good environment for wrestling.”

Following the incident, WWE implemented stricter rules regarding match finishes. From now on, referees are informed of match outcomes in advance and maintain clearer communication with wrestlers in order to prevent similar issues from happening again.
