WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton identified her victory over Trish Stratus at the Evolution premium live event this past summer as a major turning point for her confidence. Appearing on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, Stratton discussed the title match against the Hall of Famer, which took place nearly two months ago, praising their connection inside the ring.
“I think Evolution was a confidence boost for me. I was in the ring with Trish Stratus, and we had such a great match, I feel like. We have great chemistry,” Stratton said. “I love Trish so much. I love working with her. She’s amazing.”
The championship match was made on the July 4 episode of SmackDown when Stratton, while addressing a future defense against Jade Cargill, announced she had been granted the right to handpick her challenger for the July 13 all-women’s PLE. She then introduced Stratus, who accepted the challenge.
Their one-on-one encounter at Evolution was a shift in their dynamic, as the two had previously been successful allies. Stratus, who made her return in the 2025 Royal Rumble, teamed with Stratton to defeat Nia Jax and Candice LeRae at Elimination Chamber in March.
At the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Stratton ultimately retained her title, pinning Stratus after executing her finisher, the “Prettiest Moonsault Ever.” The match itself was a back-and-forth contest that saw Stratus hit her own “Stratusfaction” for a near-fall before Stratton countered a moonsault attempt to set up the finish.
Stratton also used the podcast appearance to speak on the current landscape of the women’s division.
“I think it’s amazing that we have so [many] women we can put on Evolution and everyone can have bangers. Like, I feel like everybody can have, you know, main event-level matches, and that’s so amazing,” she stated. “I’m happy to be a part of it and be a champion for all these women that we have right now.”
Following the win at Evolution, Stratton successfully defended the WWE Women’s Championship against Jade Cargill at SummerSlam. She is now involved in a feud with both Cargill and Nia Jax.
For her part, Stratus received a standing ovation after the match. Reports indicate she is expected to continue wrestling through 2025 as part of a tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of her WWE debut.
