TNA

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) is an American professional wrestling promotion. Jeff Jarrett, Jerry Jarrett, and executive Bob Ryder founded it on May 10, 2002, in Nashville, Tennessee. The company originally partnered with the National Wrestling Alliance under the name NWA: Total Nonstop Action. Unlike other promotions, it ran weekly pay-per-view events instead of monthly shows. TNA aimed to offer a “nonstop” and edgier product compared to its main competitor (Wikipedia).

In 2004, TNA dropped “NWA” from its name and became simply TNA Wrestling. Jerry and Jeff Jarrett led the company in its early years. Panda Energy provided financial backing, and Dixie Carter took over management starting in 2003. As a result, TNA quickly grew into the second-largest wrestling promotion in the United States, behind only WWE.

Anthem Sports & Entertainment acquired TNA in early 2017 and rebranded it as Impact Wrestling. However, in January 2024, the company restored the TNA Wrestling brand.

TNA faced financial challenges, including the loss of its Spike TV deal in 2014 and the exit of key talents. Nevertheless, it recovered through international distribution, especially on AXS TV, and by securing new television deals with TNT and TBS. Moreover, the company introduced innovations like the X Division (focused on athleticism and high-spots), the six-sided ring, and the Knockouts division (women’s wrestling). TNA also launched stars like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe, and attracted former WWE and ECW legends such as Kurt Angle and Sting.
