Top Free Agent Not Expected to Join WWE Despite Rumors

Josh Alexander’s TNA Wrestling contract expired on Friday, making him a free agent. According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, industry sources expect Alexander to sign with AEW, if he has not already done so.

WWE expressed interest in signing Alexander last year. PWInsider notes that wrestling agent Barry Bloom, who represents talents like Kenny Omega and Jim Ross, handles Alexander’s contract negotiations.

Dave Meltzer addressed Alexander’s free agency situation on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Well, you know, I mean, his TNA contract is up, and obviously, he was going to go to AEW or WWE, and it looks like AEW. But I do know two things. Number one, he has decided where he was going, and number two, it was to whoever the highest bidder was for him. So, the story is that it’s AEW, but I know those were the two key decision points. Providing the best for his family was key. And, you know, somebody offered a better deal than the other, and that’s the one he took.

Meltzer elaborated further on Alexander’s decision-making process, highlighting the importance of family considerations.

He made the right decision for him at this stage of his life. And it’s not a decision over who he thought was… I mean, it may be who he thought was a better fit for his matches as well, maybe, but the key to the decision, in this case, was the family and going to the, you know, essentially, the highest bidder. So that was what happened. But both sides were interested.
