Veteran writer Vince Russo has criticized WWE’s booking, focusing on the decision to have Chelsea Green lose the United States Championship earlier this year. Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s BroDown, he argued that the title change was meant to satisfy a segment of the fanbase rather than serve the overall product.
Russo expressed frustration with the creative direction, pointing out the contrast between Green’s entertainment value and the company’s decision to put the belt on Giulia. “They reminded me during the show that she was the US champion, which reminded me [that] you took the belt off of Chelsea Green for [Giulia]. Think about that. What? So what does that tell you? That’s the internet wrestling community that are in love with this girl because she’s a foreign wrestler. She’s a great wrestler. She’s in the ring. Meanwhile, Chelsea Green is the only bright fr–king light on this show. And you took the belt off of Chelsea to put it on [Giulia],” Russo said.
Green was the inaugural WWE Women’s United States Champion, one of two new women’s mid-card titles introduced in late 2024 alongside the Intercontinental Championship. Her reign ended on the episode of SmackDown that followed WrestleMania.
The championship is currently held by Giulia, who won it from Zelina Vega at a SmackDown event in Saudi Arabia on June 27, 2025. That victory marked her first main roster title after a run as NXT Women’s Champion earlier in the year.
Since then, Giulia has faced criticism for a light schedule of defenses. By August 2025, analysis showed she had defended the belt only once in two months. Her latest defense came on September 5, 2025, when she retained against Michin. Her last televised appearance was on the September 26, 2025, edition of SmackDown, where she teamed with Kiana James to defeat Michin and B-Fab in a tag team bout.
