The rivalry between CM Punk and Seth Rollins began when Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023. Their confrontation intensified after Punk defeated Rollins in their first encounter during Raw’s Netflix premiere on January 6, 2025.
Tension escalated when Punk eliminated Rollins from the Men’s Royal Rumble match. Rollins retaliated at Elimination Chamber by hitting Punk with a Stomp, allowing John Cena to secure the victory.
Tonight’s Steel Cage match continues the tradition of memorable cage bouts at Madison Square Garden. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes will also make an appearance on tonight’s show.
Last week on Raw, Punk called out Rollins for interfering in his match at Elimination Chamber. Both men engaged in a brawl throughout the arena, resulting in Adam Pearce ejecting them from the building.
Rollins later stated his intention to end his feud with Punk and challenged him to tonight’s Steel Cage match at Madison Square Garden.
