WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H directly addressed the possibility of an AJ Lee return during the post-show panel for Clash in Paris. The comments came shortly after the main event, where Becky Lynch attacked CM Punk, helping Seth Rollins retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Triple H stated he would “imagine CM Punk is gonna want to have a conversation” about bringing his wife back into the fold.
The main event concluded after Lynch’s interference allowed Rollins to secure the victory with a stomp onto a steel chair. This on-screen development immediately fueled speculation of a potential mixed tag team match pitting Punk and Lee against Rollins and Lynch. The idea was further amplified during the broadcast by a fan sign that read, “CM Punk, bring back AJ Lee,” which both Rollins and Punk acknowledged. Commentators Jackie Redmond and Big E also openly discussed the possibility, suggesting Lynch’s actions “opened a certain door.”
These on-screen events align with recent backstage discussions regarding Lee. According to a report from Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select on Sunday, the concept of an AJ Lee return has gained “more traction of late than in previous years” within WWE creative meetings. The report notes that, unlike in the past, these pitches have not been immediately dismissed by company officials. Management reportedly has no concerns about her potential ring rust, partly due to the successful return of her husband after his own long absence.
During the press panel, Triple H contextualized his suggestion by referencing how having Stephanie McMahon by his side benefited his own career, framing the strategy of having “a greater woman” behind a great man as a proven path to success. He then applied that same logic to Punk’s current situation.
“I would imagine CM Punk is gonna want to have a conversation about that [potential AJ Lee return],” Triple H said.
AJ Lee officially retired from in-ring competition on April 3, 2015, following a match on March 30. While she has previously expressed little interest in a return, the combination of a direct storyline setup and public comments from WWE’s creative head marks the most significant movement toward a comeback since her departure over a decade ago.
