For a couple of months, the team of Andrade and Rey Fenix had been gaining momentum as one of the standout acts on SmackDown. Andrade’s sudden departure from WWE, however, derailed those plans and left Fenix in creative limbo.
A new report highlights just how significant the scrapped direction was. According to Fightful Select and BodySlam, the duo was originally set to win the WWE Tag Team Championship from the Wyatt Sicks at Clash in Paris. Those plans were dropped following Andrade’s exit, with The Street Profits ultimately taking their place in the title match. Andrade and Fenix last teamed together at SummerSlam in a Six-Pack TLC Tag Team Match for the championships.
With Fenix now without a partner, discussions are reportedly underway about his next step. One possibility being considered backstage is a reunion of The Lucha Bros with his brother, Penta El Zero Miedo, who also left AEW for WWE earlier this year. As BodySlam reported: “Rey Fenix’s immediate creative plans are now currently being reshuffled due to Andrade’s departure… The idea of The Lucha Bros reuniting has been discussed but nothing is confirmed or imminent as of right now.”
While the abrupt end of the Andrade-Fenix pairing is a setback, the potential reunion of one of modern wrestling’s most acclaimed tag teams on the main roster would represent a major opportunity for both Fenix and the WWE audience.
