The verdict is in on AJ Lee’s return, and according to Fightful Select, the backstage reaction to the Wrestlepalooza mixed tag was overwhelmingly positive, with much of the credit reportedly going to Becky Lynch.
Lynch has built a reputation as the go-to talent for helping returning veterans shake off ring rust, reinforced by her past work with Lita, Trish Stratus, and Nikki Bella, whom she successfully defended her Women’s Intercontinental Championship against at WWE Clash in Paris last month.
Sources told Fightful that Lynch viewed the high-profile match as a personal challenge. Her success in these situations has not gone unnoticed, as several other returning women’s wrestlers have reportedly requested to work with her.
Despite the backstage praise for Lynch, it was AJ Lee who secured the victory in Indianapolis, her first match in over a decade.
Teaming with CM Punk against Lynch and Seth Rollins, Lee forced the champion to tap out to her signature Black Widow submission.
