WWE Adjusts Major Plans Following Seth Rollins Injury

An injury to Seth Rollins during his match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 13 reportedly forced WWE into a last-minute rewrite of the show’s conclusion. The incident, which occurred in Atlanta, sent the final portion of the event into disarray and has created significant uncertainty around the current Mr. Money in the Bank.

According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, the final 40 minutes of the show were completely upended after Rollins was hurt. He reported that WWE had a specific ending planned, which was not a cash-in, but the plan was aborted due to the injury. This forced staff to react and adjust in real-time during the live broadcast.

“The whole last 40 minutes of that show were in disarray. I was told they had something planned for the end of the show which was not a Seth Rollins cash-in, but they had something planned for the end of the show, and because of this injury, it did not happen. So there were a lot of people that were working live on this show who, in the middle of a live event, were told, ‘Seth is hurt, we gotta change it.’ So they were scrambling and doing this.”

The injury occurred during Rollins’ match against LA Knight. After attempting a moonsault, he landed awkwardly and was seen immediately clutching his knee. The match was brought to an abrupt finish, with Knight securing the victory. Rollins was visibly in pain and required assistance from officials to get backstage.

Following the event, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H stated that the injury “doesn’t look good.” Rollins, who has a history of significant knee problems, was seen on crutches and wearing a knee brace later that evening. He is scheduled for an MRI on July 14 in Birmingham, Alabama, to determine the full extent of the damage.

While the chaotic scene suggests a legitimate injury, conflicting information has surfaced. John Pollock of POST Wrestling had reported days before the event that an injury angle was planned for the show. This has led to speculation about whether the situation is a genuine injury, a planned storyline that went wrong, or a blend of both.

The outcome of the MRI will be critical for WWE’s creative plans, particularly with SummerSlam approaching. Despite the injury, Rollins is expected to be present at the July 14 episode of WWE RAW in Birmingham, likely to address the situation on-air. The event in Atlanta ultimately concluded with Gunther defeating Goldberg, an ending that came after the reported backstage scramble caused by the Rollins incident.
