El Grande Americano is scheduled to compete during tonight’s July 7 episode of WWE RAW, but a new man will be behind the legendary luchador’s mask. With the original performer, Chad Gable, sidelined by injury, Ludwig Kaiser has taken over the role and will be in action in Providence, Rhode Island.
The character switch comes after Gable suffered a shoulder injury that requires surgery. He was written off television following an on-screen attack, with Ivy Nile assuming leadership of the American Made stable in his absence. In the interim, Kaiser, who returned to WWE programming in recent weeks after being off-screen since April, has stepped in to continue the storyline.
Tonight’s appearance marks the first match for the El Grande Americano character since the Money in the Bank event. An opponent has not been announced, leaving his adversary a mystery. As the reigning and undefeated WWE Speed Champion, Kaiser will be tasked with defending the character’s unblemished singles record while Gable recuperates.
This development opens the door for several new storyline possibilities. The change in performer, noted by the clear height difference between Kaiser and Gable, could become a central plot point. It also potentially positions Kaiser for future conflicts, including a feud with Gable upon his return or even a renewed rivalry with his former Imperium stablemate, World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.
The go-home edition of WWE RAW ahead of the Evolution 2 and Saturday Night’s Main Event premium live events also features a stacked card. Other confirmed matches for the broadcast include Roxanne Perez facing Kairi Sane and Penta taking on Seth Rollins.
