WWE Announces Major Plans For Tonight’s SmackDown In Chicago

CM Punk is confirmed for a hometown return on the September 5th episode of WWE SmackDown in Chicago’s Allstate Arena. His appearance follows a direct and physical confrontation with Becky Lynch on this week’s Raw.

During the broadcast from Paris, France, Lynch slapped Punk multiple times. The exchange prompted Punk to issue a warning, stating that both Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch would regret their recent actions against him.

This specific warning to Lynch has fueled widespread speculation that Punk’s wife, AJ Lee, will return to WWE tonight. Punk’s comment is seen by many as a signal that Lee will be the one to physically confront Lynch on his behalf. A return could lead to a mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza on September 20.

Also scheduled for tonight’s broadcast is Sami Zayn. He will appear on SmackDown for the first time as the new United States Champion after defeating Solo Sikoa for the title last week.

The show will also feature a milestone appearance for John Cena. It is slated to be his final performance in Chicago, the same city where he made his WWE television debut 23 years prior.

There is also external speculation that Brock Lesnar could appear to continue his feud with Cena, which began with an attack at SummerSlam.

Randy Orton, Tiffany Stratton, and Jade Cargill are also advertised for the event.
