WWE Announces New Match for Jimmy Uso for SmackDown

Carmelo Hayes announces his first-ever match against Jimmy Uso for tonight’s SmackDown, featuring multiple championship matches and high-profile returns.

Carmelo Hayes will face Jimmy Uso in their first-ever singles match on tonight’s SmackDown, as announced by the four-time NXT Champion after meeting with General Manager Nick Aldis.

Jimmy Uso has competed in two televised singles matches over the past year. At WrestleMania XL, Jimmy lost to his brother Jey Uso, which led to Solo Sikoa removing him from The Bloodline. After returning from hiatus in October, Jimmy faced Solo Sikoa on SmackDown but was defeated due to interference from Sikoa’s associates. Jimmy also unsuccessfully challenged Solo at a non-televised event in December.

Tonight’s SmackDown Features Multiple High-Stakes Matches

Alright… I got done talking to Slick Nick, and you know I always get my way. So, tonight it’s gonna be Jimmy Uso vs. Carmelo Hayes, and Big Jim… make sure you bring them working shoes, and not those shoes you wore at WrestleMania 40.

The January 17 episode of SmackDown will broadcast live from the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, CA. The show’s lineup includes Solo Sikoa’s return, Naomi and Bianca Belair taking on Candice LeRae and Nia Jax, Los Garza versus The Motor City Machine Guns, and Tiffany Stratton defending the WWE Women’s Championship against Bayley.

Jade Cargill Could Gain Major Ally Soon

WWE Superstar Carmelo Hayes recently endorsed the idea that an alliance with Jade Cargill’s former group could have prevented the breakup between Cargill, Naomi, and Bianca Belair.

Jade Cargill, Naomi, and Bianca Belair have separated following SmackDown after Naomi was revealed as the person who attacked Cargill and sidelined her for four months.

In 2024, Carmelo Hayes offered to join Jade Cargill and her group to make them the “Big 4,” but they declined his proposal. This topic resurfaced recently, with Hayes agreeing that the group would still be together if he had joined them.

Hayes acknowledged this point in response to a social media post suggesting his inclusion might have prevented the group’s dissolution.

The original issue between the women stemmed from Naomi’s feelings that Cargill was “sucking the life out of Belair” and using Belair’s popularity for her own benefit.

When Hayes initially approached the women’s group, Cargill dismissed him because he had already lost two matches to Andrade, who was his rival at that time.

Hayes has since found success on SmackDown as part of a team with The Miz called “Melo Don’t Miz.”
