WWE Hall of Famer Calls Becky Lynch–CM Punk Segments ‘Domestic Abuse

Kevin Nash has criticized recent WWE segments involving Becky Lynch and CM Punk, arguing her physical attacks on Punk came across as “domestic abuse.” Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Nash stated that the interactions are not the “kind of heat you want” for a character.

He specifically referenced two promos where Lynch got physical with Punk. “When she went violent on Phil, with the smacking… It came off like domestic abuse, and that’s not the kind of heat you want,” Nash said. He questioned WWE’s creative standards, comparing the on-screen actions to censored language. “The company censors a line like ‘eat a fat f—k,’ but apparently, portraying domestic violence is okay?”

Nash believes Lynch’s character has lost the “edge” and “hunger” she had after the moment he feels “made” her career, when an errant punch from Nia Jax left her bloodied. “There was that visual of this pretty red-haired girl, petite, defiant, and no-selling it. That was the moment that made her,” he stated. “In my opinion, she’s not the same as she was back then. Once she had a child, she lost some of that edge.”

He also described a recent line Lynch delivered on Raw about “gross ball sweat” as “contrived” and an example of “the same old cheap heat.”

This is not the first time Nash has been critical of Lynch’s direction. Following a promo on the August 25th edition of Monday Night Raw where Lynch referenced the recently deceased Ozzy Osbourne, Nash stated on his podcast that he believed her “run’s over” and that “the business has passed her by.”

Despite Nash’s criticisms, internal creative discussions have reportedly included “major future plans” for Lynch. Pitches have suggested a potential mixed tag team match at Wrestlepalooza on September 20, which would see Lynch team with her husband, Seth Rollins, against CM Punk and a returning AJ Lee.
