WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash believes the highly anticipated match between Goldberg and Gunther should not be a lengthy affair. Instead, he has pitched a controversial and shocking scenario where Goldberg defeats the dominant World Heavyweight Champion in just three minutes.
During the latest episode of his Kliq This podcast, Nash outlined a booking decision designed to stun the audience and fundamentally alter Gunther’s character. He argued that a quick, decisive loss would create a compelling new layer for the champion, who has built a reputation on his in-ring supremacy.
“Why can’t you [have Goldberg squash Gunther]? What a great f**king angle. Every fking babyface now could cut promos on him. He’s got heat by saying that he’s the fking man. You just got—like, you’re not. Something that’s never been done that would add a different layer to the whole complexity of the psychology of that character.”
Nash referenced Goldberg’s famously short match against Brock Lesnar as a precedent, suggesting fans would not feel cheated by a brief encounter if the moment was impactful enough.
“How long did he go with Lesnar the first time? Three? People weren’t disappointed.”
The vision Nash described would be a definitive statement, culminating in a powerful visual of disrespect.
“To f**king beat Gunther in three fking minutes and then f**king leave—stand over him and fking drop the belt on him and leave.”
While Nash discussed the idea from a creative standpoint, the match itself is no longer speculation. The bout is officially set for this Saturday, July 12, at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta. The contest will not only be for Gunther’s World Heavyweight Championship but is also being billed as Goldberg’s definitive retirement match.
The confrontation has already reached a boiling point following this past Monday’s episode of WWE RAW. During the broadcast, Goldberg made a dramatic return to confront Gunther, knocking the champion down with a single punch and setting a physical tone for what will be his final in-ring appearance.
