Comments from a WWE Hall of Famer have shed light on potential behind-the-scenes tensions following WrestleMania 41. The absence of a major star from the event continues to generate discussion within the wrestling community.
Eric Bischoff addressed the situation between The Rock and Triple H during a recent episode of his 83 Weeks podcast. The industry veteran suggested that backstage politics played a role in The Rock’s unexpected absence from WWE’s biggest showcase, where John Cena defeated Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
I wouldn’t wanna be Triple H. He took a lot of heat, and maybe he deserved it, maybe he didn’t. I think that politics are pretty obvious here. Again, because of who Rock is and the gravitational pull and the success that comes with him, generally speaking, I think there was an accommodation made that they wish they wouldn’t have made because it wasn’t well thought out.
The Rock previously stated his WrestleMania absence was intentional to keep focus on Cody Rhodes and John Cena. However, many fans questioned this explanation, particularly after the Final Boss character had been prominently featured in WWE programming.
Bischoff noted the logical inconsistency in The Rock’s storyline alliance with Cena and Travis Scott at the Elimination Chamber event. Rather than The Rock making an appearance during the WrestleMania main event as many expected, Travis Scott interfered to assist Cena in capturing the championship.
The comments from Bischoff suggest complex power dynamics may be influencing creative decisions at the highest levels of WWE.
