WWE may have revealed CM Punk's new rivalry
CM Punk’s championship quest disrupted by Dominik Mysterio while Jeff Hardy proposes final WWE match against former rival.
CM Punk’s pursuit of the World Heavyweight Championship ended in controversy at the WWE Holiday Tour in Chicago. During the Steel Cage Match on December 29, Dominik Mysterio’s interference prevented Punk from capturing the title from Gunther.
After landing the GTS on Gunther, Punk attempted to exit through the cage door. Dominik slammed it shut, enabling Gunther to escape first and retain his championship. The incident connects to their history from 2010, when Punk antagonized a young Dominik during his feud with Rey Mysterio.
The clash marks their latest encounter since Punk’s WWE return, following multiple non-televised matches. At Madison Square Garden on December 26, Punk came to Damian Priest’s aid when Dominik and Ludwig Kaiser launched an attack.
Punk’s next challenge awaits at WWE RAW’s Netflix debut on January 6, where he faces Seth Rollins.
Jeff Hardy envisions final WWE match against CM Punk
Jeff Hardy shared his retirement plans during the HOG Live event, expressing interest in a final WWE appearance opposite CM Punk. The veteran wrestler outlined his vision for concluding his career:
I want to have one last spectacular match in WWE, be part of the Hall of Fame and end my career in the best way. Looking back on my career now, it all seems like a blink of an eye when you achieve so much and get to this point in your life. It would be special to have one last incredible match, maybe make CM Punk retire, and then get inducted into the Hall of Fame.
This potential matchup would revisit their memorable 2009 rivalry, which blended storyline elements with real tension, leading to Punk’s heel turn and iconic “pipebomb” promo. A Double Retirement Match at WrestleMania 42 could provide closure to their storied history.
