WWE planning historic returns for Royal Rumble
Ric Flair and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, former Royal Rumble winners, may make special appearances.
WWE is preparing special surprises for Royal Rumble 2025, which will be held on February 1st at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
According to PWInsider Elite, the company plans to bring back historic Royal Rumble winners for special appearances.
Ric Flair, who won the Royal Rumble in 1992, and “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, winner in 1988, are the main names being considered for these appearances. Due to their advanced age, Flair at 75 and Duggan at 70, their participation will likely be as special guests rather than active participants in the Royal Rumble Match.
John Cena seeks to make history in 2025
Amid speculation about legends’ appearances, John Cena emerges as a favorite to win the men’s Royal Rumble Match. Cena began his farewell tour during WWE RAW’s Netflix debut, where he confirmed his participation in the traditional 30-man match.
A Royal Rumble victory would allow Cena to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship or Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41. If he wins either title, Cena would become the sole record holder for most World Championship reigns, surpassing the 16-reign mark he currently shares with Ric Flair.
According to information released by WrestleVotes:
Cena’s promo puts him among the top favorites. The audience reaction showed they want to see the 17th reign.
WWE is already developing potential storylines for Cena at WrestleMania 41, including a potential showdown with Cody Rhodes, although the Royal Rumble isn’t the only path to this match.
