WWE Reportedly Considering Hong Kong For Premium Live Event

Fresh off a Premium Live Event in France and with a special broadcast of Raw scheduled for Australia next month, WWE’s international expansion strategy appears to be continuing. The company is now reportedly exploring another major market for a potential large-scale event: Hong Kong.

According to a report from Fightful Select, influential figures within WWE have been pushing for several months to bring a Premium Live Event to Hong Kong. While no official announcement has been made, these internal discussions signal a serious consideration to re-enter the Chinese market.

A Premium Live Event in Hong Kong would be the company’s first-ever show in the region and its first event in China since 2019. Between 2016 and 2019, WWE held yearly events in Shanghai, a practice that was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The company’s previous strategy in the region also included talent recruitment, with a four-day tryout in Shanghai leading to the signing of seven Chinese talents to developmental contracts years ago.

The potential move comes as the local wrestling scene in Hong Kong prepares for its own event. On September 25, the Hong Kong Wrestling Federation (HKWF) is scheduled to hold an outdoor show called “Ring of Harbour,” featuring international and local talent.

This international focus follows the “Clash in Paris” PLE that took place on August 31. WWE’s upcoming global schedule also includes a broadcast of Raw from Perth, Australia, on October 13.

For now, the company’s confirmed domestic schedule includes the inaugural Wrestlepalooza PLE on September 20 in Indianapolis. The event, headlined by John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar, will mark the company’s debut on ESPN platforms in the U.S. and will be available globally on Netflix.
