WWE was reportedly embarrassed by Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch’s promo on Monday Night Raw, where she made comments about the recently deceased Ozzy Osbourne. According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, the company is now discussing making a public apology for the remarks.
The situation escalated after Osbourne’s daughter, Kelly Osbourne, publicly condemned the segment. Alvarez noted that her reaction has prompted internal discussions within WWE. “Kelly Osbourne is not happy,” Alvarez stated. “I was told WWE is embarrassed and they are probably going to do an apology. There’s discussion about doing a public apology, I know they talked about doing a private apology.”
The controversy began during the Raw broadcast from Birmingham, England. In a segment with her rival Nikki Bella, Lynch, performing as a heel, refused to defend her title before their scheduled match at Clash in Paris. To draw heat from the hometown crowd, Lynch called Birmingham a “dump” and then referenced the city’s most famous musician, who passed away on July 22, 2025.
“The only good thing that came out of here died a month ago,” Lynch told the booing audience. She continued, “But in fairness to Ozzy Osbourne, he had the good sense to move to L.A., a proper city. Because if I lived in Birmingham, I’d die too.”
The comments drew an immediate and sharp response from Kelly Osbourne. On her Instagram, she labeled Lynch a “disrespectful dirtbag” and criticized the promotion directly. “Shame on the @wwe for allowing such things to be said about my father and his home!!!!” she wrote in a post.
Many fans on social media also described the promo as “classless” and “distasteful,” arguing that using the recent death of a beloved figure crossed a line, even within the bounds of kayfabe. Ozzy Osbourne, a Birmingham native, was inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame in 2021 and had previously appeared at events including WrestleMania 2.
