Travis Scott’s role in WWE’s plans concluded after the rapper reportedly lacked commitment, leading to Jelly Roll stepping into the SummerSlam spotlight. Scott made a significant impact at WrestleMania 41, helping John Cena defeat Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship, but his involvement with the company ended shortly after.
Dave Meltzer revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE had substantial plans for Scott at SummerSlam, potentially involving a major celebrity tag team match in a heel role. However, Scott’s uncommitted approach caused the angle to fall apart. Meltzer confirmed that the initial pitch for SummerSlam centered on Scott before WWE decided to pursue Jelly Roll instead. Jelly Roll has since appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre to promote the event.
One backstage source told Meltzer that Scott “likes to have a bunch of projects going on at once and he’s noncommittal.”
WWE insiders had hinted for months that Scott was difficult to work with. One source told WrestleVotes:
“I heard he was ‘not a quick learner for the business.’”
Another source stated:
“He doesn’t like to commit to anything. He goes half-in, and tries other projects at the same time. And since he’s a personal client of Ari, everyone tried to accommodate until it just became too much to deal with.”
Scott’s inability to fully engage led to the disappearance of his planned role, allowing Jelly Roll to benefit from what could have been Scott’s prominent position at SummerSlam.
