Fresh off a viral explosion in popularity, wrestling sensation Mr. Iguana has set his sights on a prominent WWE champion, expressing a strong interest in a potential dream match against Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio. The challenge connects one of wrestling’s fastest-rising stars with an established figure of The Judgment Day.
Mr. Iguana’s interest comes on the heels of a career-altering performance at the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event on June 7, which saw his social media following and merchandise sales skyrocket. Now, he wants to test his skills against a competitor with a unique Lucha Libre lineage. During an exclusive discussion with Sportskeeda Senior Editor Bill Apter, who billed the potential contest as a dream match, Mr. Iguana detailed his perspective on facing Mysterio.
“Well, it would be a lot of lucha things. First, I will measure how much lucha he has in the blood. Then I think, this lizard will do the other job. For me, mentally, it will be like, ‘Whoa, he’s the son of my idol, Rey Mysterio, and he has the image of another idol, Eddie Guerrero.’ So, for me, it’s a very surreal moment for a lucha guy.”
The potential matchup highlights the success of the new partnership between WWE and AAA, which has provided a platform for international talent like Mr. Iguana to enter the WWE landscape. Despite some minor backstage controversy regarding comments about bypassing NXT, WWE is reportedly close to finalizing a contract with Mr. Iguana, viewing him as a key figure for future television and merchandising.
For his part, Dominik Mysterio has been a cornerstone of The Judgment Day for over two years, solidifying his position as a top-tier heel on the main roster. He was recently sidelined with an injury that prevented a scheduled title defense against AJ Styles, but he remains a high-profile target within the company.
