WWE Returns to Undercut AEW with Special Event

WWE is making a significant move in Philadelphia, announcing a special live edition of NXT for Tuesday, August 19, just over a week before rival promotion AEW begins a multi-week residency in the same city.

The company confirmed the event through a press release on July 7, stating that the broadcast will air live from The Met Philadelphia on The CW Network. This places a major WWE event in the historic wrestling city just days before AEW’s own extended run. An exclusive pre-sale for tickets begins on Tuesday, July 8, with a general on-sale following on Wednesday, July 9, via Ticketmaster.

This special NXT show is not an isolated event. It is part of a larger WWE presence in the city that week, as it follows a previously scheduled WWE RAW taping at the Wells Fargo Center on Monday, August 18. This scheduling stacks two major WWE television tapings in Philadelphia on consecutive nights.

These events are strategically positioned just before AEW kicks off its own residency at the iconic 2300 Arena on August 27. AEW’s series of events will include multiple episodes of Dynamite and Collision, as well as the ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view, running until September 11.

The proximity of the dates and venues, located just a few miles apart, establishes Philadelphia as a clear competitive battleground for the two promotions heading into the end of the summer.
