A new report indicates a planned change for Roman Reigns' character upon his eventual WWE return to television.

WWE Reveals New Roman Reigns’ Nickname

A potential new direction for Roman Reigns upon his return to WWE programming has reportedly been revealed, centering on an evolution of his established persona. With his return anticipated as SummerSlam approaches, a report from WrestleVotes indicates that the “leading” idea for his presentation is a new moniker: ‘OTC1’ or ‘Tribal Chief One’.

This potential change follows the precedent set during his 2024 comeback, where he adopted the nickname ‘The OTC’, for ‘The Original Tribal Chief’. The proposed ‘OTC1’ appears to be a direct continuation of that identity, further cementing his status within the company’s storylines. Reigns has been absent from television since the WWE RAW episode on April 21, but he remains a central figure in the promotional material for SummerSlam, which takes place on August 2 and 3.

According to the report, the new nickname is part of a larger strategy for his return.

“With his return drawing closer, we’re told the moniker “OTC1” — or “Tribal Chief One” — is the leading idea for how Roman Reigns will be presented upon his return to TV.”

Further reports indicate that WWE is preparing a complete rebranding for Reigns, which will include new gear and merchandising to accompany a major storyline planned for the fall.

While his Hollywood schedule, including filming for the new Street Fighter movie, is being balanced with his wrestling duties, sources confirm that both Reigns and WWE are committed to a strong in-ring presence for him through the end of 2025. His last televised match was at WrestleMania 41, where he was defeated by Seth Rollins in a triple threat match that also involved CM Punk.
