Rey Mysterio opens tonight’s show. The masked superstar receives a huge reception from the audience, greeting fans, especially children, during his path to the ring.
With microphone in hand, Mysterio hears the “619” chants coming from the crowd. The veteran welcomes everyone to Friday Night SmackDown and announces his participation in the Royal Rumble Match. In his return, he recalls his victory in 2006, when he entered as the second participant and earned a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXII.
Mysterio mentions some of his potential opponents in the Royal Rumble: Drew McIntyre, CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and John Cena. Finally, he remembers dedicating his 2006 victory to Eddie Guerrero.
Kevin Owens interrupts the segment, entering with the Winged Eagle Championship. The Canadian apologizes for the interruption and expresses his respect for Mysterio, citing him as one of the names he admires most in pro-wrestling.
In his speech, Owens recalls his memorable WrestleMania moments: the match against Stone Cold and winning the Tag Team Championship with Sami Zayn. Now, with his dream title in hand, he reveals that something is missing in his career: a singles match against Mysterio.
The champion enters the ring and expresses his hope for Mysterio’s victory in the Royal Rumble, hoping to be the champion chosen for the WrestleMania challenge.
Mysterio responds by pointing out that Owens is not the champion, but Cody Rhodes is. The veteran agrees to face him if he defeats Rhodes. Owens reacts furiously, proclaiming himself the true champion.
Mysterio compares Owens’ attitude to Drew McIntyre and his son Dominik. The Canadian attempts an attack with the title, but Mysterio dodges and strikes his legs, dropping him on the second rope. Before the “619” execution, Owens escapes outside the ring, retreating up the ramp while shouting that he’s nothing like Dominik.
Backstage, Bianca Belair talks with Naomi about the investigation into Jade Cargill’s attacker, still with no updates. The two plan their revenge against Candice LeRae and Nia Jax for the interference that cost them a title opportunity last week. Naomi gives Belair advice about her braid before they head to the ring.
Backstage, Nick Aldis grants Rey Mysterio’s request and schedules a match against Kevin Owens for tonight. Cody Rhodes joins the conversation, receiving a special contract for Saturday Night’s Main Event from the General Manager.

Tonga and Fatu attack Jimmy Uso in succession, until Carmelo Hayes joins the attack. Fatu intercepts Hayes with a Clothesline and finishes Jimmy with a Running Umaga. Solo Sikoa arrives at the ring after the area is cleared.
The leader receives the microphone from Fatu but is booed by the crowd. Fatu demands silence from the audience when Sikoa speaks. The boos continue after the microphone is returned, leading Sikoa to abandon the ring and leave through the fans, leaving his companions perplexed.

Major WWE Star Announces Hiatus After SmackDown
Following the March 14 edition of SmackDown in Barcelona, Lilian Garcia announced her departure as full-time announcer while transitioning to Saturday Night’s Main Event specials and other WWE projects.

Lilian Garcia announced she will no longer serve as the ring announcer for Friday Night SmackDown. She shared the news through her Instagram following the conclusion of the March 14 broadcast from Barcelona, Spain.
Garcia revealed that while stepping away from weekly SmackDown duties, she will remain with WWE in multiple capacities. Her new role includes handling ring announcing for all Saturday Night’s Main Event specials, which occur quarterly on NBC and Peacock.
The veteran announcer shared details about her transition in an Instagram post after her final SmackDown appearance.

A new era is upon us BUT I will still be with the company as I will be announcing for all @wwe Saturday Night’s Main Event shows on @nbc & @peacock , singing at certain special events, AND currently working on other show ideas with WWE!
WWE is my home so stay tuned as a new chapter begins… I invite all of you to continue this journey with me as we share it together!!

Garcia originally returned to WWE on the October 21 episode of Raw, resuming her role as a ring announcer. She subsequently moved to the SmackDown brand earlier this year before this recent change in responsibilities.
WWE has yet to announce who will replace Garcia on the Friday night program. Alicia Taylor currently serves as Raw’s ring announcer, while Mike Rome handles announcing duties for NXT.
The announcing roles have been fluid recently, with Garcia filling in for Rome on NXT and Rome appearing on Raw before returning to NXT the following night.
This change represents another adjustment to WWE’s broadcast team, though Garcia will continue to maintain a presence with the company through her new specialized role.
