With cornerstone stars like John Cena and Roman Reigns nearing the end of their tenures, WWE is actively cultivating its next wave of main event talent. A report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter identifies Rhea Ripley, Jacob Fatu, and Bron Breakker as the three key figures being groomed to lead the company into the future.
This strategic shift is designed to ensure a seamless transition as the era of current headliners like Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, and CM Punk eventually winds down.
WWE reportedly views Rhea Ripley as the “obvious long-term face” of the entire women’s division. Her sustained presence in main event storylines, including a scheduled Triple Threat match for the Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam against Naomi and IYO SKY, underscores the company’s significant investment in her as a future standard-bearer.
On the men’s side, WWE is positioning Jacob Fatu for a run as an elite babyface. His current feud with The Bloodline is set to escalate at SummerSlam, where he will challenge Solo Sikoa for the United States Championship inside a Steel Cage. The company’s support for Fatu reportedly includes an exclusive merchandise strategy previously reserved for top-level stars, signaling a major promotional push.
Bron Breakker, a former NXT Champion, is being developed under the direct mentorship of Paul Heyman. This pairing is an intentional effort to refine Breakker’s promo abilities to match his in-ring prowess. His integration into main event segments on WWE RAW alongside Heyman’s stable is part of a methodical plan to establish him as a credible headliner.
The urgency of this generational shift is highlighted by upcoming roster changes. John Cena is expected to retire by the end of 2025, and Roman Reigns’ current contract expires after WrestleMania 42. While not part of the primary trio, Trick Williams is another talent being monitored for his charisma, with potential for a top spot if his in-ring work continues to develop.
The push for these future stars will be on full display at SummerSlam, which takes place on August 2-3 from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
