WWE veteran Vince Russo has taken issue with Bo Dallas appearing on SmackDown without his signature Uncle Howdy mask, a move that broke from the character Dallas has portrayed since his 2022 return. The unmasked appearance occurred during several backstage segments on Friday’s broadcast.
While reviewing the show on the latest episode of BroDown on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, Russo voiced his confusion about the creative choice, suggesting it muddles the presentation of the Wyatt Sicks leader.
“Why is Bo Dallas coming out as Bo Dallas? Why?” Russo questioned. “I swear to God, sometimes I’m watching this show and I’m really starting to believe, like, are you doing this purposely to see if like we catch it?”
The segments in question involved Dallas confronting the brand’s top tag teams. He first approached The Street Profits, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins, and questioned the authenticity of their bond, warning them, “When you come for us and fail, you’re going to find out if he really is your brother.” Later, he interrupted The Miz and Carmelo Hayes as they prepared for their match, speaking cryptically about perception versus reality.
Later in the night, Dallas reverted to his masked Uncle Howdy persona, appearing at ringside with the rest of the Wyatt Sicks during the co-main event, which pitted The Street Profits against The Miz and Carmelo Hayes to determine the number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship. The stable’s presence at the announcer’s table caused a critical distraction for The Miz, allowing The Street Profits to secure the victory.
Following the win, The Street Profits will now challenge the Wyatt Sicks’ Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy for the WWE Tag Team Championship. The title match is scheduled to take place tomorrow, August 31, at Clash in Paris.
