Mercedes Moné Frustrated by Comparisons to Hulk Hogan

Amid a dominant, multi-promotional run as a “belt collector,” Mercedes Moné has directly addressed fan comparisons to Hulk Hogan, requesting they use a different name to characterize her success. The AEW star offered a clear correction for those labeling her “Mercedes Hogan” due to her strong booking and accumulation of championships.

During a recent Instagram Live session, Moné made her preference known.

“Don’t call me Mercedes Hogan, call me Mercedes Omega.”

The statement is a direct reference to Kenny Omega’s own “belt collector” gimmick from a few years prior, indicating Moné prefers that parallel over comparisons to Hogan. The fan commentary intensified after Moné defeated Zeuxis to win the CMLL Women’s World Championship at an AEW event in Mexico.

Her collection of titles could expand even further. At AEW All In Texas on July 12, Moné is scheduled to challenge “Timeless” Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship. A victory in that match would add a seventh championship to her current reigns, which already include the AEW TBS Championship, the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship, and the EWA Women’s Championship, among others.

This run has been defined by more than just championships. Moné recently celebrated her 1,000th career match, defeating Mina Shirakawa on the 300th episode of AEW Dynamite to retain her TBS title. That specific reign has now surpassed 400 days, the second-longest in the title’s history. Her career has also been marked by historic firsts, including becoming the first woman to wrestle in Arena Mexico, Wembley Stadium, Madison Square Garden, and the Tokyo Dome.

Even while dominating AEW’s landscape, Moné remains a vocal advocate for the broader women’s wrestling scene. She recently commented on WWE’s decision to bring back the all-women’s Evolution event.

“I think it’s about time. They waited way too long to have an all-women’s pay-per-view. But I love and I will always support and be a huge advocate for women’s wrestling, so I am excited for that and for the women that get to perform on that.”
