Kevin Owens Reveals Why He Saved Carmelo Hayes From Randy Orton on SmackDown

SmackDown opened with Kevin Owens interrupting Randy Orton before The Viper could speak. Owens explained his actions from the previous week in Barcelona, where he prevented Orton from delivering a punt kick to Carmelo Hayes.

Owens stated he intervened because he was concerned about Orton returning to his more vicious persona. He told Orton he felt compelled to save Hayes from being punted in the head.

During this segment, Owens wore an RKO shirt while attempting to make amends. He proposed they form a partnership to pursue the WWE Tag Team Championship titles at WrestleMania 41.

Orton rejected this offer firmly. He instead suggested a singles match between them at WrestleMania in Las Vegas. The Bologna crowd vocally supported Orton, making it difficult to hear portions of Owens’ speech at times.

This confrontation appears to be setting up a match between the two competitors at WrestleMania 41.

The current card already includes Cody Rhodes defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against John Cena, Tiffany Stratton defending the WWE Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair, Gunther defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Jey Uso, and Iyo Sky defending the Women’s World Championship against Bianca Belair.
